KANDYAN DANCE 💃

Out of the three local dance traditions, my favorite dance tradition is the Kandyan dance tradition. The main ritual of this tradition is the Kohomba Kankariya.  This is the beginning of Kandyan dance.  In addition, you can see the kadawara kankariya, bali, adhukku, mutti nevilla. The main instrument of this tradition is the knot drum. This tradition is also spread in Matale, Kandy, Hewaheta and Harispattuwa.

Shortly after King Vijaya came to Ceylon and married Kuveni, Kuveni blamed the palaces and King Vijaya fell ill due to her curse.  Therefore, this peace ceremony has been held.  It is called dhivi dhoshaya. 

Many songs, dances and dramas can be seen in this pacifism.  Dances such as Kuveni Asna, Kohomba Hella, Hathpadaya, Yak Anuma and dramas such as Uraa Yakkama and Naya Yakkama are also seen.

The main costume of the Kandyan dance tradition is the wes costume.  This is a very elegant dress.  The dress is designed in colors like red and white.  In addition to this dress, the Naiyadi dress can be seen.

The headdress of this wes costume is considered noble and the wearing of hisa wes is mandatory for a person learning to dance to become an artist.
